Abstract

This research aims to examine the initiation and development process of a household-scale organic fertilizer business with a case study of the Tani Subur Production House in Sleman Regency. The main focus of the research is to understand the strategy of survival and development of environment-based micro-enterprises in facing market dynamics and their contribution to the empowerment of the surrounding community. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through literature study, field observation, and in-depth interviews with business managers. The results showed that business initiation began with personal awareness of environmental issues and market opportunities, then developed through independent experimentation and support from agricultural extension workers. The family-based organizational structure provides managerial stability, while the flexible and inclusive work system strengthens the loyalty of the local workforce. Capacity building strategies are carried out through cooperation with farmer groups, distribution of free samples as a form of promotion and collaboration with other production houses when demand increases. The findings indicate that social values, adaptability, and community networks are key to the long-term success of small-scale organic fertilizer businesses.
