Abstract

Religious tolerance is the ability to respect religious differences, crucial for harmony and conflict prevention. In Indonesia, there is a substantial level of tolerance, yet pockets of intolerance persist in some regions. The aim of this research is to understand the Unan-Unan tradition and the enhancement of religious tolerance among the Tengger Bromo community. This study employs a qualitative analysis utilizing a systematic method to evaluate relevant literature. The findings include: 1) Key elements of the Unan-Unan tradition among the Tengger Bromo community: Preparation involves careful community readiness, Presentation entails traditional leaders leading a procession towards the Bromo Mountain crater, Procession includes wearing traditional attire, singing traditional songs, and accompanying offerings with prayers. Offerings are placed in various revered locations, and Conclusion marks the closure of the Unan-Unan ritual after the offerings are made. 2) The rituals and traditions within Unan-Unan reflect reverence for the culture and customs of the Tengger community. This encompasses dance, music, and distinctive cuisine that form an integral part of the ceremony. Tolerance towards cultural diversity strengthens unity and solidarity within the Tengger community. Unan-Unan serves as a significant moment for the Tengger community to gather, interact, and share collective experiences
