The Belangiran ritual in Lampung, as a tradition of self-purification prior to Ramadan, holds profound meaning both culturally and religiously. This study aims to examine how the Muslim community in Lampung interprets the Belangiran ritual in the context of self-purification before Ramadan and how this ritual is received within the framework of Islamic teachings. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective, involving in-depth interviews and participatory observation with members of the community still practicing this ritual. The results show that the Belangiran ritual is seen by the community as a means of physical and spiritual cleansing, with symbolic elements tied to Islamic teachings, such as prayer, dhikr, and charity. Despite differences in perception between older and younger generations, this ritual remains an important part of communal and spiritual life. While most of the community associates this ritual with Islamic values of self-purification, not all are fully aware of its direct connection to religious teachings. The findings contribute to the understanding of the integration of local traditions and Islamic teachings in shaping religious practices in Muslim communities in Indonesia.
